Fancy trying something new?

It is up to you, the reader or book buyer, to decide on the best option for your personal needs, whilst deciding if you want to research how to best dispose of your items when you have finished with them, but if you have read through our campaign, then this process should hopefully be a little easier for you now!

For further guidance, here are some helpful websites and organisations that also love the planet and your old books, too!

If you purchase physical books (paperbacks), old ones could be donated to charities such as Give a Book, the British Red Cross, and the British Heart Foundation. Also, the Children’s Book Project will gift your donated books to children in any of their partner schools and community groups.

Also, visiting your local library enables you to browse and borrow a wide array of books completely free of charge.

Additionally, websites such as World of Books offer to purchase people’s old books and either recycle or resell them on their website. This means that all books advertised on their website are second-hand, but they can be purchased at varying prices depending on their condition. These services make World of Books a great option for anyone who would like to make some extra money selling their books or save money when browsing for new ones!

It is also essential to know that if books are discarded with black bin waste, they end up in landfills, and if you add them to your paper recycling at home, they won't be recycled due to the adhesive (glue) that is used to bind them, meaning they will still end up in a landfill.

So, if your books aren't fit for second-hand use, the kindest thing you can do for your books and the planet is to research your local recycling centre and check if they accept books. This way, they will be processed and recycled correctly and will not end up in harmful landfills.

Together, we can create a more sustainable world by embracing greener choices in our daily lives—better for us, better for the planet.
